UX/UI Design Challenge | UXL Choice Nominee | March 2024
Project Overview
Through this designathon, teams were given the task to answer the design prompt:
"How might we use elements of everyday life to promote bonding and relationship-building?"

With the popularization of remote work, this app addresses young adults who work remotely in big cities. Coming by in-person interactions may be difficult for these individuals, therefore we developed an app that encourages human connection through a simple humane task; eating!

User Research
A survey as conducted amongst individuals ages 20-26 to see what the demands were for the app.

Through this survey we noted that:
  1. People have dating apps but have low success rate for meeting with individuals.
  2. People often eat alone at home and at work.
User-Persona
Ava Cruz

GOALS

  • To meet new people in Toronto
  • To feel less lonely

DESIRES

  • Wants to make some new friends!

NEEDS

  •  Social interaction and a sense of community

FRUSTRATIONS

  • Dating/Friend apps set high expectatins and lead to disappointment
  • Finds it hard to run into people since she works remote
FEATURES OF THE APP
The main goal of the app was to encourage users to meet with individuals in-person as soon as possible.

Dating apps have a surplus of choice and options to meet others. Additionally, dating apps set profiles based on individual's hobbies and interests, which often times can create pre-judgement prior to meeting new people. The surplus of choice can be overwhelming, making the user feel like a product instead of a person.

We decided to add the following features to the app to promote in-person connection:
  1. Limited amount of generated profiles - app will only generate 12 users per use
  2. Limited prompts for the user profile - other users only see cuisine preference, budget, selfie and voice prompt
WOrKflow and Wireframing
There were two sequences that the user would go through when using the app:
  • Onboarding Sequence
  • Action Sequence
ONboarding Sequence

To generate user profile, location and food preferences

Action Sequence

To input type of cuisine, budget and time availability. This would generate available users and enable the chat function.

  • Further develop the high-fidelity prototype, specifically the chat function.
  • Improve the chat function to allow for an internal map to locate restaurants.
